ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUES (A.R.T.) @ AOC on 12th

What is Active Release Techniques?

Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) is the
official Ironman Soft Tissue Therapy partner.

Active Release Techniques Soft Tissue Management System (A.R.T.®) is the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue injuries, which are a result of repetitive stress or traumas such as whiplash, muscle strains, ligament sprains and joint capsule adhesions. It is a method of healing injuries by locating scar tissue/adhesion, then applying tension to the scar tissue/adhesion while lengthening muscles, tendons and ligaments.

A.R.T. returns tissue to its correct tension, texture,

movement and function thus eliminating symptoms.

Active Release is a highly successful treatment not only to athletes or individuals who suffer from a traumatic injury, but to anyone who leads an active life, sits at a computer all day, or enjoys outdoor pursuits such as gardening that may cause repetitive stress or strain. Many daily activities cause repetitive stress/strain creating inflammation and the formation of scar tissue, which hinders the movement and function of soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves). This creates symptoms of pain, stiffness, decreased range of motion, numbness and muscle weakness.

Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with A.R.T.

These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

How do overuse conditions occur?

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues)
change in three important ways:
1.  Acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)

2.  Accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)

3.  Not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

What is an A.R.T. Treatment Like?

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

Active Release works for almost every part of the body, for a variety of injuries and conditions, some of which are listed above to the right:

Our Active Release treatment is always tailored to individual patient needs and comfort levels and may be used as a stand alone treatment or in combination with traditional chiropractic care, deep tissue laser and or massage therapy.

Active Release Techniques (ART) was developed and patented by
